Individual Impacts on Peleliu
Due to the sheer number of American and Japanese forces involved in this battle, it is difficult to give the perspective of every unit or leader. Furthermore, because the battle was viewed as being unnecessary during and after the war, the roles commanders played on Peleliu are not as well documented as they are in other battles of the Pacific Theater of World War II. However, the personal accounts of enlisted Marines at Peleliu are well spread. The Names to Know Subsection of this website will explain the role of the commanders/command structure because they are important to understand in learning the context of the battle. To contrast this view, the Firsthand Accounts Subsection will explore the role of the enlisted Marine and the experiences these individuals had during the bloodiest battle of the war.
